Technology Overview
Every student at King Middle School receives a Lenovo 500e Chromebook to support their learning in school and at home. These devices are loaned to students by Atlanta Public Schools (APS) and must be handled with care every day.
All students and families are expected to follow APS device rules, keep the protective case on at all times, bring the device to school charged, and report any problems or damage right away.

Devices Issue to Students
Device Model: Lenovo 500e Chromebook
Assigned To: Each student for school use
Loaner Devices:

If a student forgets, loses, or damages their Chromebook, a temporary loaner may be issued (if available).

Loaners must be returned as soon as the student’s assigned device is repaired or replaced.
Protective Case Requirement:

Every device comes with a protective case.

The case MUST stay on at all times, whether at home, at school, or during transport.

Removing the case or using the device without the case is not allowed and will result in a $30 charge.
Device Policies & Responsibilities
Students are responsible for:

Bringing the Chromebook to school every day

Keeping the protective case fully installed

Charging the device nightly

Using the device safely and responsibly

Reporting damage or loss immediately
Parents/guardians are responsible for:

Helping students care for the device
-
Paying any required replacement or damage fees (see below)

Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Devices
Lost or Stolen Chromebook:

Replacement cost: $500
Damaged Beyond Economical Repair (BER):
-
If APS determines damage is severe and cannot be repaired at a reasonable cost, the replacement cost is also $500
Lost or Damaged Case:

Replacement cost: $30
Students should report the following immediately:

Device not working

Device lost or stolen
-
Any crack, missing keys, or other damage
Reporting early helps prevent additional damage or charges.
Optional Student Device Insurance (Safeware)
APS offers optional device insurance through Safeware to help families avoid unexpected costs.

Device Care & Best Practices
To keep devices in good working condition:

Keep food and drinks away from the Chromebook

Always carry it with two hands
-
Never place heavy items on top of it
-
Store it in a safe place at home

Do not write on, peel, or remove APS labels
-
Bring device fully charged each day
-
Keep charging cords in good condition

Damage that happens without the case is considered neglect, and the family may be charged.

The Chromebook belongs to APS and must be returned in good working condition.

Multilingual Support!
With the Securly Home App, parents can choose if they want to view the Securly Home app in English, Spanish or French. Change the default language from the Settings app and all the features will be available in French.
Infinite Campus
The Infinite Campus Parent Portal is the main way for parents and guardians to stay connected to their child’s school life. Through this online system, you can easily check your child’s grades, missing assignments, attendance, schedule, teacher messages, and school announcements—all in one place.
Parents can log in from any computer or download the Campus Parent mobile app to stay up to date on the go. Infinite Campus helps families understand what is happening in the classroom so they can support their child’s success.
With the portal, you can:

The mobile app makes access even easier. You can download it by searching for our district (“ATL” → Georgia → Atlanta City) and logging in with your username and password.

Paper
All APS students have unlimited (K-12) tutoring & writing support access for any subject, any time, on all devices, including a 24/7 Live Help chat for help with a homework question, an example from class, or while studying. Also, students may upload their typed, written work and get annotated feedback in 24 hours or less at the Review Center.
Students can use the Paper website, type in their school name, and sign in with myBackpack.

Student Log In Instructions
- Students log in at app.paper.co using their APS Network login as username and password.
- When they log in, they'll be prompted to add an email address to their account.
- After they add their email, they'll receive an email to verify their email address.
- Students can then use the platform as much as they need!
