Principal Kimberly Gibbs

Kimberly.Gibbs@atlanta.k12.ga.us
Welcome to a new year filled with exciting possibilities at King Middle School! It is with immense
pride that I invite you to join us on this journey of growth and achievement as we embrace our
theme: Winning at King!
I'm Kimberly Gibbs, your principal, and I'm thrilled to continue leading this exceptional school
with its rich history. As we embark on the 2025-2026 school year, "Winning at King" perfectly
captures our commitment to excellence in every aspect – from academics and character
development to extracurricular successes. We believe in empowering every learner to discover their
unique strengths and achieve their personal best.
I hold a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Wilmington University and have been dedicated to the field of education since 2003. For 13 of those years, I've championed the unique middle school experience. My journey includes serving learners in grades K-8 as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Additionally, I shared my passion for education as an adjunct professor at Washington College in Maryland.
Beyond the classroom, I'm a proud mom of two amazing young men, affording me a unique perspective as a parent, teacher, and administrator. As a product of Atlanta Public Schools myself (Gideons Elementary, Sylvan Middle, and North Atlanta High School), I understand the value of a strong education firsthand.
My leadership style focuses on implementing and maintaining consistent academic and behavior interventions through MTSS. I'm passionate about supporting educators in strengthening special education practices and believe in fostering strong connections with learners to boost their academic engagement. Much of this will be done through a strong International Baccalaureate instructional framework that includes AVID inclusive practices using WICOR (Writing, Inquiry,
Collaboration, Organization, and Reading). Creating a positive and nurturing environment is key to cultivating a climate of learning where everyone feels welcome and respected, setting the stage for Winning at King every day.
King Middle School, one of the first in the nation named after the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., celebrates its 52nd anniversary this year. We proudly uphold our core values of being Respectful, Open-minded, Accountable, and Reflective (R.O.A.R.) in everything we do, from academic and social-emotional learning to extracurricular activities. Our dedicated staff will work diligently to provide rigorous, relevant academic experiences that enable learners to build strong relationships and apply knowledge to the real world. We strive to create a positive, fun, and nurturing environment where learners are excited to learn and excel, truly embodying the spirit of Winning at King.
As your principal, my door is always open. Your feedback is valuable to me. Please feel free to reach out by phone or email to discuss any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year. Let's work together to make the 2025-2026 school year one of remarkable victories and achievements – let's focus on Winning at King Middle School!
